This is the summit of shirting. Golden Jubilee by David & John Anderson is woven from Giza 45, the cotton known as the queen of Egypt, grown in one small corner of the eastern Nile Delta and picked by hand. Its fibre is so fine, long and strong that it can be spun into a 330-count yarn, among the finest cotton threads made anywhere.
Four of those threads are twisted into one and woven across a fine two-ply warp in a Royal Oxford, the most refined of the Oxford weaves. Blue and white threads cross in a minute diamond texture, so the colour is never flat: it shimmers softly as the cloth moves, with a natural lustre that owes nothing to any finish. The hand is smooth, supple and almost weightless.
A fabric this rare is not cut in advance. Each shirt is made for one person, to his measurements, with his choice of collar and cuff.
